Reflection
The electric potential lesson plan implemented a full suite of formative and summative assessments to capture the full range of student progress and achievement of the content standards. Inquiry activity sheets provided ongoing formative feedback on student participation to ensure students were engaging in shared learning experiences. Whiteboard activities were used during discussions, and they allowed me to gauge the effectiveness of the inquiry activities and recognize what content knowledge may need additional support for the whole class. Warm-up activities and small-group discussions provided opportunities for me to identify students who needed more support in internalizing the models being discussed. Summative assessments—including small written projects and quizzes—evaluated the achievement of students on the content standard. Assessments of this kind helped provide further understanding of students who may struggle with future plans. These students became an explicit focus for additional support as the content and models would continue to build upon themselves. Overall, the assessment data allowed my instruction to remain responsive and grounded in evidence.
