Many of my students in the physics courses were also enrolled in advanced biology, EMT training, and health courses and participated in various athletic programs. By taking the time to learn about these individual interests, I was able to integrate biologically relevant real-world applications to my instruction, and provide students with unique entry points, bringing in their prior knowledge to new understanding. The design brief allowed students to draw on their own understanding of the workplace culture and communicate understanding to an authentic audience; applying the content in this way makes the necessary writing meaningful. The data from this assignment helped recognize further linguistic and cognitive needs to better individuals specific learning needs.
